The goal of the cultural centre KulturFabrik Bratislava is to join
the international exchange of the world's contemporary art scene. KulturFabrik
will create a platform that has been absent in the capital before now
and that is inevitable for such a change.
When we look at the history of cultural workshops, we can consider the
famous Factory of the American Slovak Andy Warhol that has provoked
a huge cultural transformation, as a real revolution. Similar projects
began to be raised across the whole world and nowadays there is in fact
no European metropolis without its own Kulturfabrik or, a Factory for
culture.
The concept is based on the model of similar centres in the main European
cities that have gained a privileged status on the contemporary international
arts scene in the last decade. The important fact is that most of these
non-profit institutions (such as W139
in Amsterdam, Kulturfabrik
in Luxembourg, Ufa-Fabrik in
Berlin, non-conform quarter Christiania
in Denmark, Meetfactory in
Prague, Kulturfabrik Vienna,
Trafo Budapest, IASPIS
in Stockholm, DAAD in Berlin,
PS1 in New York or Rote Factory
in Zurich) are involved in the financial system based on grants with
significant support of the residential cities. Multi-media and connection
between various activities is the model that is known by its functionality.
As an example, the Bauhaus in Weimar has been working on a similar basis,
too.

KulturFabrik, benefiting from
the ideas of the centres historically established already, could be
the appropriate response to the system of international cultural exchange.
The people from the KulturFabrik have personal experience at some of
them. They have carried out their projects there or co-operate with
some of these cultural centres directly. However, what is essential
is that it is possible to count on their support.
